Maintaining a pool can be stressful and require a bit more time than you’re expecting. Here are a few easy and quick steps to get your swimming pool ready for a pool opening party!

If you’ve covered the pool during the closing season, simply remove all debris including leaves and dirt before storing the cover for the season. It is important that the cover is completely dry to avoid mold and mildew while it is being stored.

Make sure the chemical levels, including the pH balance and chlorine, are the right proportions. The pH level should be between 7.2 to 7.6ppm and the chlorine should be between 1 to 3 ppm.

Check your pool pump – it may be time to backwash the system. To do this, turn all valves in reverse to clean the system. This step shouldn’t take any more that five minutes and it saves your pump from working so hard during the summer season.

Replace your pool filter at the beginning of the season, this way you know you can make it the entire season without worrying about the filter.

Don’t skimp on cleaning out the bugs, debris, leaves and dirt from the water. Invest in a great pool vacuum (give us a call for our recommendations) and skimmer. Cleaning the pool is a daily pool maintenance task and will help keep your pumps and vacuums running smoothly through the season.

Along with skimming the pool, empty the baskets! Removing the bugs, leaves and other debris can help you avoid cracking, overworking the pump and clogging the line.

Finally, brush the bottom of the swimming pool with a nylon brush. This will help break up any algae or bacteria that has built up. Combined with vacuuming and skimming, you’ll have a clean and healthy pool all summer!
